2) When finished with step 1), write a "J" in each box that describes what you think your job or primary role calls for.

3) After step 2) is complete, place an "O" to represent another person you know (e.g. your boss or spouse) in the box that you think best describes them.

4) If the "O" is in the same box as your initial, write a "+" in the "Psn" column. Otherwise write a -1, -2, or -3, showing how many boxes apart the "O" is from "S".   Do the same thing in comparing your score to the job score "J", using the "Job" column.  Or, if you want to compare yourself to what is generally healthy and well adjusted, compare your "S" score to the descriptions for each scale that are in white underlined letters.

Areas marked "+" show compatibility and success. A "-1" may cause significant problems. "-2" may be a serious problem. "-3" may be very serious.  Later pages on this site will discuss in detail some predictable exceptions to this calculation.  For example, if "S" and "O" are both "1" on Intolerant, or both are "4" on Decisive or Assertive, much conflict is probable.  If this is the case for you, go back up to the Psn score and change it to a -3 or -2.

Notice that in areas where you fit your job there is comfort and success.  In areas where you do not fit your job, there is discomfort and lack of success.  Also notice that, usually, in areas where you and another person are similar, there is comfort and success.  In areas where you do not fit the other person, there can be discomfort and less success.

We caution against making personal, job, or relational decisions based on this free emotional intelligence test.  Only a thoroughly-tested assessment instrument like the Simmons Personal Survey can provide a precise and thorough evaluation of your character.  The Survey looks past blind spots you may have, precisely measures each area of character on a 100 point scale (not in 4 points as you see above), compares your scores to a variety of tested norms, and offers specific recommendations.  On the Survey, you will see where you are, where you need to be, and how you can improve.
